The nonprofit Children and Family Urban Movement, based in the River Bend neighborhood, named Rudy Trejo as the new CEO. Trejo is currently the Assistant Dean of Students for Campus Enrichment and Student Equity at Drake University, where he oversees the Office of Student Life, Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, Prevention Program and of Education and the Office of Spiritual Life. He is also the Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Office of Dean of Students and is an Adjunct Professor at Drake’s College of Business and Public Administration. Previously, Trejo held administrative positions at the University of Denver, Washington State University, and the University of Arkansas. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and religious studies from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas, and a master’s degree in education with a major in educational administration from the University of Texas in El Paso. “The CFUM Board of Directors is delighted to have Rudy join the CFUM team as the new Executive Director,” Board Chair Heather McDermott said in a statement. “We are confident that Rudy’s skills and vision will help propel CFUM further in its mission to create a community that supports the potential of children, youth and families through educational success, healthy living and to community engagement. Trejo said in a statement that he was excited to join the organization. “For 30 years, the CFUM has been a community asset and a proud partner of Moulton Elementary School. Having the ability to lead this organization into its next chapter is exciting. Growing up in West Texas, I participated in programs similar to those offered by CFUM and frankly, I wouldn’t be here today without organizations like CFUM. Trejo is also involved on the boards of Friends of the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden and the YMCA Supporting Housing Campus. He will take office at the CFUM on June 20. He succeeds interim CEO Randy Clausen.
